First Aid/Nursing Care
Nursing care is available for first aid, acute illnesses, managing chronic health conditions, and medical situations. The school nurse follows up health issues with parents, health care providers, and staff as needed. Parents/guardians, as well as students are encouraged to contact the school nurse with any health care questions or concerns that may affect student’s learning or school attendance.
Screenings/Examinations
School nurses perform the following Massachusetts mandated health screenings, unless written documentation is provided by the student’s primary care provider (M.G.L.c71, s57): Vision, Growth & Development, Hearing Screenings, Postural/Scoliosis Screenings. Click here to read more about these screenings.
Health Requirements Before Entrance Into School
Physical Examinations: Required for all students in grades, kindergarten, 1st, 4th , 7th , 10th and new students entering the Stoneham Public Schools, including transfers, must have written proof of a physical by their private physician. An exam completed (in the state) within the preceding year of the student's date of entry will be accepted. Please contact the school nurse if you are unable to obtain a physical exam for assistance.
Immunization requirements: Written proof of immunization must be provided and will be reviewed by the school nurse. If the immunizations are not complete, based on the requirements of the Department of Health, the student may not be permitted to start school.
