The SHS Student Handbook has been updated recently and is available online under the “Parent Resources” on the SHS website, which may be found at www.stonehamschools.org. The handbook is available in print in the SHS Office.  Please be advised that this revised handbook includes updates/revisions to the school code of conduct.

Postural Screening and SBIRT Screening will take place Wednesday, December 12, for all freshmen.  Freshman families received a separate email about SBIRT screening from me last week. Female students are asked to bring a bathing suit top, or equivalent, on the day of the screening. This will help nurses conducting the screening to have a more accurate observation of the student's back.  If your freshman is currently receiving treatment for a spinal problem, or if you wish to opt out your student, please inform the school nurse, in writing, prior to the screening date.  Our school nurse, Mrs. Malzone, may be contacted at smalzone@stonehamschools.org or 781-279-3810 x1317.  Please feel free to call her with any questions.

Here is a scholarship opportunity for seniors. Each year the AFL-CIO offers a Labor History Exam for seniors who wish to compete for AFL-CIO scholarship opportunities. All interested seniors are eligible, while students who have a labor union affiliation may be eligible for additional opportunities. Registration is ONLINE ONLY at www.massaflcio.org/scholarships.  Online registration must be completed by Friday, December 14.  The exam will be given at Stoneham High School on Wednesday, February 6, 2019.

The Stoneham Council on Aging, along with the Stoneham Senior Center, is sponsoring the 5th annual "Socks for Seniors" drive. Their goal is to provide all seniors in need (shut-ins, nursing home residents and elderly housing residents) with a warm pair of socks for the holidays. We will be working with Stoneham volunteers and local programming to sort and deliver to those in need in our community.   There is a drop box in the front lobby and all donations will be accepted through December 14.  Thank you for your continued support!

I hope you have a good week.
