On Wednesday, May 15, 2013, the Fine Arts Department of Stoneham Pubic Schools will present their annual Spring Arts Festival - a district-wide celebration of art and music in Stoneham schools.  From 6-8 pm, at Stoneham High School, visitors may browse works of art from grades 1-12, take in some performances by the choral and instrumental music ensembles, and enjoy some light refreshments.  Children of all ages can get crafty at the art activity tables and parents can discover the myriad ways the arts enrich the lives of their children every single day.  Admission is free. The Spring Arts Festival is sponsored in part by a generous grant from the Stoneham Business and Community Educational Foundation in conjunction with MELD, Inc.

Strong Arts = Strong Schools.

Weekly Update 5-6-13

Dear Stoneham High School Families,

The cast and crew of the drama club did a great job this weekend with their performance of Anything Goes.  Everyone involved should be very proud of himself/herself! It’s great to see students have a way to share their acting, musical and artistic talents.  I’d go as far as to say we may have some future engineers in the bunch! They took the set from their previous play and transformed the materials into a boat.  Impressive! More importantly, students in the SHS Drama Club are welcoming to new members and genuinely support one another.  Some of the students who performed this past weekend were completing their first show at Stoneham High as juniors and seniors. I’m glad students felt confident they would be received well from this group! <?xml:namespace prefix = o />

Thank you to the senior boys and their dads/guests who took the time to attend the Senior Boys’ Brunch yesterday.  By all reports I received, everyone had a great time.

A.P. testing begins today and will run through May 16.  Sophomores will be taking the math portion of the MCAS next Monday and Tuesday.  As usual, please encourage your student to get enough sleep the night before a test and to eat something the morning of the test.

The Senior Tea will be Sunday, May 19, at 2:00 pm.  All senior girls are invited to attend with their mother or female adult mentor.  There is no charge for the Tea. Senior girls will receive additional information about the Tea in their English classes this week.

It’s yearbook time! The full-color, 200 page book entitled, As Luck Would Have It, will be on sale beginning today through May 17.  Yearbook staff members will be taking orders at both lunches and the cost of the yearbook is $75.00.  Students may pay in cash or with a check made out to S.H.S. Activity Fund.  Students who order yearbooks will be given a receipt to be redeemed when yearbooks are distributed on June 3.

Representatives from the All Night Party Committee ask those who wish to contribute messages to the memory book to return completed forms with payment as soon as possible.  A form is attached to this email. The committee is in need of chaperones for the party this year.  If you are the parent or guardian of an underclassman, please consider helping on June 7.

Save the date! The second annual SHS Gridiron Golf Tournament will be Monday, June 10, at Bear Hill Country Club. Please see the attached flyer!

As the school year closes, there will be an opportunity for students and families to express their appreciation to the teachers and staff of SHS by donating items for a Teacher Appreciation Luncheon.  The luncheon will be this Friday.   Please contact Mrs. Susan O’Neil at suebella3@msn.com by Tuesday if you wish to contribute.  She will coordinate the donations of paper goods, cold drinks, salads and desserts.  Thank you sincerely for all contributions!

I have attached to this email information about a special project to be held on May 18 to raise funds to improve the A.P. Rounds playground in Stoneham.  Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with this great project!

I hope you have a nice week!
