Welcome March

Welcome March

Printer Friendly Version

Hello,

Well, I think it is safe to say that this weekend’s winter weather concerns were Much Ado About Nothing as we enter March with seasonal temperatures on the way.  I am sure there is much agreement for this weather change.  This should allow for a fun Fall Two Athletic Season especially for those teams competing outside.

March is a busy month for course selection which will begin next week with Class meetings with School Counselors.  A Course Selection Calendar is provided below.

Many updates are provided below for what will be a busy, fun, successful and positive second Semester.

Remote Expectations

When attending classes remotely; behavioral and attendance expectations, classroom rules and school rules, are the same as in school / in person.  When your cohort is on a scheduled remote day students are expected the same level of attendance, behavior, dress, engagement and participation as they would attending class in person at school.

Spring Events / Senior Events / Graduation

Initial meetings and discussions with school administration and class, club and activity Advisors have already begun regarding Spring events such as Carnival Ball, Musical and Theatre Productions, a senior picnic, prom and graduation.   There is much observable  excitement and creativity being shared by our advisors as to how these events and others may occur safely and within COVID safety requirements and guidelines as we have with our hybrid learning model, athletics and other school activities.  The recent announcements about Massachusetts transitioning to a new phase and the prospect of vaccinations have provided even further hope and excitement.

We are fully aware of the importance of these events as part of our school culture as a whole as well as a right of passage for our seniors.  There is an abundance of ideas and enthusiasm to help.  We are extremely optimistic of what will be possible.

One thing for certain is SHS will hold our 2021 Graduation Commencement, as scheduled on the SPS 2020-2021 School Year Calendar, on Friday, June 4 (or weekend of 6/4).

We will continue our work to determine how to best go forward with these events to the extent possible with the information we have now and knowing it will most likely change over the next few months.  Further information and any opportunities to support or contribute will be communicated as quickly as possible.  The next few weeks will deliver more information after further meetings and discussions with Administration, Advisors and student representatives.
