PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION

9/6/2021

Greetings,

Happy Labor Day!  I hope you are all enjoying the long holiday weekend and the final bookend of the Summer.  It was a good start to the school year and I think the brief start before Labor Day followed by a four day week before we hit our first full five day week allows for a nice transition to the School Year.

Class meetings and Chromebook pick up before the first day of school allowed for a review of behavioral, academic and community expectations, handbook updates, technology preparation before their first class, access to walk the building and class specific activities.

The first two days this past week allowed students to readjust to a school schedule, attend all of their classes and meet each teacher, find their locker if assigned, understand their lunch period, learn about FLEX and their FLEX group, reconnect with peers and basically a beginning to establish their flow and routine within the building for the school year.

Next week will see an increase of academic engagement as teachers robustly move forward with their first units of course curriculums.  Classroom discussions, activities, classwork and homework will increase as students and teachers dig into the learning process.

This next week will also see a new morning drop off routine so as to ensure safe and efficient access to school for our students who walk, drive or are being dropped off.  I am sure it has not been lost on you that the traffic flow around morning drop off is, let’s just say, congested.  It certainly is not efficient and at times questions safety with the mix of walkers, cars and students exiting cars at different locations while in the traffic line.  With safety and efficiency in mind, and in consultation with our School Resource Officer, we are initiating a new Morning Drop Off Routine starting on Tuesday, 9/7/2021.  Please read below for further details.

With the first games of the Fall Athletic Season our fields will again come alive with competition, sportsmanship and school spirit.  Theatre, music and club activities are soon to follow.  By the time we hit the first five day week all components of school will be active and in good stride.  The School Year is here...let’s enjoy it!

Have a great week.

Effective Tuesday, 9/7/2021 / Morning Drop Off

Morning drop off will follow the Main Driveway up to the right and along the Softball Field and up to the front sidewalk.  Students are to be dropped off anywhere along the sidewalk between the Gymnasium and Main Office.  To assist with the flow of traffic, please pullover to the first available spot along the sidewalk.

For safety and traffic efficiency students are to be dropped only along the front sidewalk between the Gymnasium and Main Office.

Cones will be placed in key areas to assist and highlight this new drop off pattern.

The access cut through to the Student Parking Area and the East side of the high school will still be open.  This is for student and faculty parking only and not student drop off.

Afternoon pickup and exit from SHS, at this time, will remain as is.

We thank you in advance for your help as we work to establish a safe and efficient morning routine for school opening.

As always, please drive with awareness and caution on school grounds.
