I hope you are enjoying the cooler seasonal weather. With school entering it’s first full week, athletics active in competition and clubs and activities picking up full speed these coming days it is certainly feeling like Fall; bring it on!
This mailing provides useful information and links to keep you apprised of school events, activities, happenings and updates to best support your success as a student and involvement as a parent / guardian. We ask that you please review and discuss the mask policy, as mentioned below, to help reinforce this DESE requirement. Our success in maintaining the learning environment and activities we have had through this pandemic ordeal has been due in large part to our students and households positive compliance with required safety guidelines. Now is not the time to give in to frustration, being worn down or just slacking. We are all in this together and need to remain so….Remember, Spartan Strong...Mask up.

Masks
|
There have been increased reports of masks not being worn appropriately by students. Though this is not across the whole student body it is enough that it needs to be a public reminder that masks are required at all times, except during lunch when eating or an identified mask break. The mask is to be fully covering the nose and the mouth / chin area. Our expectation and experience thus far has been that students and households will respond positively and support us in maintaining a safe learning environment. We thank you in advance for your continued support and diligence in helping to keep SHS a safe learning environment. |

Parent Involvement / SHS School Council
|
The SHS School Council is composed of one student and one parent of each class (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025), teacher representatives (3), one community member and the Principal. The School Council meets monthly from August to June assisting the Principal with the approval process of the Student Handbook, development of School Improvement Plan and initiatives and budget considerations and planning. The School Council is seeking a parent representative for the Class of 2025. The process for selection of this position is through vote by households of the Class of 2025. An electronic ballot will be issued to households with all applicants on Wednesday, 9/22/2021. If you are interested in joining the SHS School Council as the Class of 2025 Parent Representative please email Bryan Lombardi (blombardi@stonehamschools.org) with a brief narrative of you, why you want to be on the committee and what you will bring if selected. These narratives will be shared publicly in the ballot process described above. The deadline for applicant submissions is Monday, 9/20/2021. |

· Senior Parents o The Guidance Department is hosting a Senior Parent Night on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 6:00 pm at the high school. o Discussion will focus on the four-year college application process and review the information shared with seniors in school that week. · All Parents o MEFA ( Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority) is offering a variety of upcoming webinars related to college planning and financing. More information and registration here: · SAT test dates at SHS o October 2, 2021 § Registration closed o November 6, 2021 § Registration deadline: October 8, 2021 o March 12, 2022 § Registration deadline February 11, 2022 o June 4, 2022 § Registration deadline: May 5, 2022 · PSAT o The PSAT will be offered at Stoneham High School on Saturday, October 16th at 7:45 a.m. for any sophomore or junior interested. o Registration information is as follows: § Cost - $32.00 check written out to SHS Activity Fund § Please register with Mrs Polizzi in the guidance office by Monday, September 13th. · *Fee waivers are available, please reach out to your counselor if you think you may qualify.* |

School Lunch Meals
|
All students are allowed one free breakfast and one free lunch meal for the 2021-2022 school year. Additional meals and al carte items are available for purchase after a student has received their free breakfast or lunch meal. Free and Reduced Lunch Though school lunch and breakfast meals are free to all students the application for students who qualify for free and reduced lunch is still IMPORTANT. · Qualifying students are eligible for reductions in school related activity and athletic fees |
