Volunteer Opportunities
There are several volunteer opportunities available for parents and caregivers throughout the year, including the Spartan Run in the Fall, Field Day and the Book Fair in the Spring. A year-round activity that requires parent/caregiver participation is volunteering in the school Library/Media Center. Because the school does not have a dedicated librarian to staff the library, volunteers are counted on to staff before-school library time. Shadowing/training is provided for newcomers. Sign-up is available at Sign-Up Genius. Please make sure you have a current CORI form (criminal offender record information) on file with the front office before volunteering in school. Approved forms are good for 3 years.
Fundraising
Throughout the year, the PTO runs fundraisers to support the staff and students, including field trip costs, teacher/staff appreciation, supplies for classrooms and staff not otherwise covered by the budget and in-school presentations and enrichment programs. The biggest event is the annual Spartan Run held in October. If you are involved with or know of a business that would like to sponsor the Spartan Run or if you would like to help out with the event, email stonehamspartanrun@gmail.com. Other events throughout the year include local restaurant dining nights, gift card programs and the Book Fair in the Spring.
Passive Fundraisers – Help earn money for our school!
Here are a few simple ways to earn money for the SCMS PTO.
BAYSTATE TEXTILE: Got old clothes or stuffed animals to donate? Drop them in the Baystate Textiles Box and earn rebates for Stoneham Schools! Boxes are located at all schools, Town Hall and Stevens Street Recycling Center. SCMS Box is located on the Pomeworth Street side of the building. Rebates earned from donations at any of the boxes are split between the schools so donate to the most convenient location for you. All dry textiles are accepted.
BOX TOPS: NO CLIPPING REQUIRED Download the Box Tops app, select our school, shop as you normally would, then simply scan your store receipts to find participating products. The app will automatically credit your school’s Box Tops earnings on-line. Don’t forget as your child leaves an elementary school to update your school selection to Stoneham Central Middle School.
RAISE RIGHT: SCMS PTO uses RaiseRight to fundraise the easy way. When you purchase gift cards through our link at Raise Right the SCMS PTO gets a percentage of the gift card price! You make the purchase right on the website- you can even conveniently choose e-cards to use on the spot! It’s convenient, and it works.
