Hope you had a great weekend!  It's going to be wet this week, please prepare appropriately.  

 

Two weeks remain in the 1st Quarter; Q1 ends on Friday, 11/5.  Please be sure to utilize FLEX Block opportunities for any needed teacher support.

 

Many good things are happening at SHS from engaging activities in your classrooms to our clubs, athletics, art, theatre and music programs.  Thank you for what you do, it is a pleasure to observe your efforts, contributions and successes.

Hello,

 

Wonderful fall weekend in the books, I hope there was something enjoyable for everyone.  This week looks to be wet so please plan accordingly with transportation to allow for safe and timely morning drop offs.

 

We enter the last week of October with two weeks remaining in the 1st Academic Quarter; Q1 ends on Friday, 11/5.  Students should continue to utilize Flex Block opportunities to meet with their teachers for any academic assistance.  

 

Fall Tournaments will soon begin for our qualifying Teams.  It has been a fun and successful season so far, come on out and show your support!  Make sure you mark your calendar for one of the performances of the SHS Drama Clubs Fall Production of James and The Giant Peach scheduled for December 3 and 4.  

 

Parent - Teacher conferences will occur on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.  Meeting options will provide in person and remote options.  Meeting details including times and registration will be shared soon.

Thanksgiving Food drive

Stoneham High is collecting Thanksgiving food items to be donated to the local food pantry.  

 

If you are interested in donating, there is a box located in the front lobby of the high school.  

 

Items must be donated by Nov. 10th.

 

Needed items:

Flour                                                     Sugar

Vanilla                                                   Condiments and Dressing

Baking Powder and soda                      Gravy

Vegetable oil                                          Jellies/Jams

Stuffing mix                                            Canned fruit for pies

Cranberry Sauce                                   Jiffy pie crust

FLEX

Friday, Day 5, 10/29, is a 1/2 day due to Professional Development with release at 12:15pm.  Students will remain in their flex advisory for the shortened period.

So please do not sign yourself out of flex for this day. 

 

SENIORS: As mentioned in your meeting today, you have the option of signing up for Senior Privilege on Days 2, 4 and 5.  Please follow the directions set forth in the meeting today before signing up for Senior Privilege.

 

There are some great new fun and helpful choices as well as the continuous flex activities! 

 

Flex Enrichments 10/26-10/29

 

Senior Privilege

To promote the development of independent life skills of balance of work and self care, planning and organization and prioritization and time management Stoneham High School permits Senior Privilege for eligible Seniors.  Senior Privilege has been approved for the Class of 2022 by the School Committee for the 2021-2022 School Year.  

 

·  Senior Privileges 

o Ability to sign out and leave school grounds during lunch 

o Ability to sign out and leave school grounds during Flex Block on days 2, 4 and / or 5.

§ Students register in advance on the preceding Day 1.  

§ Teacher requests to meet with a Senior will override a senior privilege sign up.

o Students will sign in and out through the QR code system as they currently do for PE Independent Study, Work Study or Internships.  

 

·  Minimum requirements for eligibility

o Passing of all classes

o Good behavioral standing 

§ Administration holds the right to limit privileges as situations arise.

·  Senior Privilege will start with the following privileges on the following dates

o Lunch; Monday, 10/25 

o Flex Block; Tuesday, 10/26

 

Athletics

Winter Sports Registration and Winter Sport Meetings

·  Opens Monday, November 1 st  

o Online registration through FamilyID

o FamilyID, physical and payment must be completed and received by the Athletic Office no later than 11/29

§ No student will be permitted to participate in any Winter Sport tryout, practice or competition without a complete registration packet 

 

Winter Sport Athlete and Coaches Meeting

·  Tuesday, November 9th 

o After school in the gymnasium

o Mandated for all Winter Sport Student Athletes 

 

First day of winter sports 

·  Monday, November 29 

·  FamilyID, physical and payment must be completed and received by the Athletic Office no later than 11/29

o No student will be permitted to participate in any Winter Sport tryout, practice or competition without a complete registration packet

YearBook / Senior Picture UPDATES

The deadline for Prestige sittings is November 15th

·  Prestige Portraits will come to SHS on Friday, November 12th from 9:00am - 2:40pm

o 40 Appointments available  

o For appointments parents/students should email Mr. Von Sneidern; kvonsneidern@stonehamschools.org  

o $20 fee 

§ Checks should be payable to Prestige (no cash).

§ Rrefundable once students return the proofs.

Advanced Placement (AP) Testing Information / Parents

Advanced Placement May Test deadline is November 15.  A $40 late fee is applied after November 15.

Stoneham Coalition for A Safe and Healthy Coalition: Join us for this year's Parent University, a fun, half day event for parents with students of any age that provides knowledge and advice from community experts through a series of free workshops focusing on student's educational experience and well-being

School Culture / Students

We remind our students of their part in creating and maintaining a safe, healthy and positive school climate.  With this in mind we remind our students the following:

 

·  Assist in maintaining our building security by not exiting, opening or pegging any external school doors.  

o Exit and entrance from SHS during school hours is through the main entrance doors only.

 

·  Please appropriately discard all of  your lunch trash in any of the provided trash barrels.

o Special attention to the outside cafe eating area.
