Course Selections for 2023-2024

Printer Friendly Version

January 29, 2023

Hello,

Despite the weather challenges of the last week we successfully transitioned into the start of the Second Semester.  As we close out January and begin February we enter a three-week period of five-day school weeks before Winter Vacation.  These weeks will be active with a variety of extracurricular activities from athletic competitions to theater rehearsals and many other club activities.  Students are encouraged to continue to utilize FLEX Block opportunities in a thoughtful and meaningful way to manage their school activities and obligations and to best support their learning and academic progress.

These next few weeks also begin our course selection process for the 2023 - 2024 school year.  This past week School Counselors began visiting Grade 9 classrooms to discuss course options.  Meetings with Grade 10 and 11 students will occur this week followed by the Teacher Recommendation period during the week of February 6, which will have teachers meet individually with students to discuss course and level recommendations.

Students are encouraged to discuss course selections with their teachers, school counselors and parents / guardians to assist in selecting courses which best suit individual interests and passions and post-secondary goals. The 2023 - 2024 Program of Studies (HERE) is provided to guide and assist students for course selection and four year planning.

Here’s to a good week!  Go Spartans!

Student Parking / Winter driving / Student Drop Off & Pick Up

The past couple of weeks have reminded us that we are still in Winter and that it will be around for a bit longer.  With that in mind, here are reminders for a safe and efficient traffic experience while driving at SHS:

·  Driving

o Drivers please  be extra cautious and aware and follow the posted and established parking and driving routes.  Winter weather impacts road conditions and visibility and adhering to established routes and expectations will only help in maintaining an efficient and safe traffic process.

·  Student Drop Off & Pick Up

o Please remember that student drop off and pick up is required in the designated Drop Off  / Pick Up Area in the lower parking lot. The Drop Off  / Pick Up Area consists of white lined marked space before and after the staircase.  Please help with traffic flow by having your student exit or enter the car at any time your vehicle is stopped between the lines of the designated Drop Off  / Pick Up Area.

§ Student drop off / pick up in the upper parking lot, closest to the school, is not a designated Drop Off / Pick Up Area and is only for those individuals who have a physical necessity.

·  Student Parking

o Unfortunately we have reached our student parking capacity, there are no more available student parking spaces.  At this time Student Parking is closed for any new drivers.

o Non-registered drivers are not permitted to park on school grounds and any violators are subject to towing at the cost of the vehicle owner.
